The VTCT Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is a practical qualification for learners who want to quality assure assessment within an education, training or workplace setting.
Learners will develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to monitor, maintain and improve the quality of assessment. The course covers internal quality assurance principles, assessment sampling, planning, assessor support, standardisation, feedback, record keeping and working in line with awarding organisation requirements.
Learners will also develop their understanding of the role and responsibilities of an Internal Quality Assurer, including professional boundaries, equality and diversity, legal and good practice requirements, communication, confidentiality and maintaining consistent assessment standards.
All courses require employment for a minimum duration of 16 hours per week.
This course is designed for learners who are already involved in assessment or who are ready to progress into an internal quality assurance role.
Learners should be occupationally competent in the area they wish to quality assure and should ideally hold a recognised assessor qualification, such as the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement. As this is a practical IQA qualification, learners will also need access to assessment activity so they can gather evidence of internal quality assurance practice.
This is a flexible internal quality assurance qualification delivered over a timetable suited to the learner and the evidence they need to gather.
On completion, learners can progress into Internal Quality Assurer, Internal Verifier, Lead Assessor, Quality Assurance or training management roles within vocational education, apprenticeships, further education, private training academies or workplace learning environments.
Further progression may include the Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice, teaching qualifications, external quality assurance qualifications or wider education and training leadership roles.
Learners will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course. This may include written assignments, IQA plans, sampling records, assessor feedback, reflective accounts, professional discussion, oral questioning, standardisation evidence and documentation gathered from real internal quality assurance practice.
Learners will need to demonstrate their ability to internally assure the quality of assessment in a suitable training, workplace or assessment environment. Evidence should show that the learner can plan internal quality assurance activity, monitor assessment practice, sample assessment decisions, give constructive feedback, maintain accurate records and support consistent assessment standards.
Assessment is designed to confirm the learner’s knowledge, understanding and practical ability to work as an Internal Quality Assurer in line with professional, centre and awarding organisation requirements.
