The Hair Professional Level 2 course combines practical work-based learning in a commercial salon with training sessions at Westrow Academy.
Learners will develop the core skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to begin a professional career in hairdressing. The course covers consultation, shampooing and conditioning, cutting, styling, colouring and lightening, helping learners build confidence in a real salon environment.
Learners will also develop their understanding of safe working practices, client care, communication, professionalism, product knowledge and the standards expected when working as part of a salon team.
All courses require employment for a minimum duration of 16 hours per week.
This course is designed for learners who are beginning their career in hairdressing and want to develop the practical skills required to work professionally in a salon.
Learners do not need to already hold a Level 2 hairdressing qualification, but they should have a genuine interest in the hairdressing industry, good communication skills and a willingness to learn through both salon-based experience and academy training.
The course runs between 13 and 24 months.
On completion, learners can progress into employment as a Junior Stylist, Hair Professional, Hair Stylist, Hairdresser or Stylist within a salon environment.
Further progression may include the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Advanced and Creative Hairdressing, specialist hairdressing techniques, advanced colour training, barbering, assessor awards or further professional development within the hairdressing industry.
Full hairdressing kits can be purchased directly from the Westrow Academy in partnership with Dennis Williams.
Learners will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course. This may include written work, oral questioning, practical observation and evidence gathered from salon-based practice.
For learners completing the apprenticeship route, the programme also supports preparation for End-point Assessment. The Hairdressing Professional EPA includes a knowledge test, a practical assessment and a professional discussion supported by portfolio evidence, assessing the learner’s knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours.
At Westrow Academy, our courses are designed to give learners the skills, confidence and professional support they need to progress in the hairdressing industry. Training combines practical experience, expert guidance and structured learning, helping each learner develop at the right pace while building the knowledge and techniques required for their chosen qualification.
Depending on the course, learning may take place through a combination of salon-based training, Academy sessions, practical demonstrations, theory work, observations and ongoing reviews. This ensures learners can apply their skills in real working environments while receiving regular support from experienced educators.
