The VTCT Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introductory teaching qualification for learners who are interested in teaching, training or delivering education within the further education, adult learning or private training sector.
Learners will develop the core knowledge and practical skills needed to plan, deliver and evaluate inclusive teaching and learning sessions. The course supports learners in understanding the role and responsibilities of a teacher or trainer, how to create a positive learning environment, and how to use appropriate teaching and assessment methods.
Learners will also develop their understanding of professional boundaries, communication, learner support, equality and diversity, assessment practice and reflective evaluation.
All courses require employment for a minimum duration of 16 hours per week.
There are no formal prerequisite qualifications required to undertake this qualification.
Learners should have a genuine interest in teaching or training and should have suitable knowledge, experience or competence in the subject area they wish to teach. Learners should also be able to communicate effectively and complete written coursework as part of the assessment process.
The qualification has 48 guided learning hours and a total qualification time of 120 hours, which includes centre-led learning, independent study, lesson planning, written assignments, practical preparation and assessment completion.
On completion, learners can progress into teaching, training or facilitating roles within further education, adult learning, workplace training or private training environments.
Further progression may include the VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, the VTCT Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, assessor qualifications such as the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, or further specialist teaching and training qualifications.
Learners will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course. This may include written assignments, lesson planning, teaching resources, reflective evaluation and evidence linked to the required assessment criteria. Learners completing the inclusive teaching unit will also take part in a micro-teaching assessment. This gives learners the opportunity to plan, deliver and evaluate a short teaching session, demonstrating their ability to use inclusive teaching and learning approaches in practice.
At Westrow Academy, our courses are designed to give learners the skills, confidence and professional support they need to progress in the hairdressing industry. Training combines practical experience, expert guidance and structured learning, helping each learner develop at the right pace while building the knowledge and techniques required for their chosen qualification.
Depending on the course, learning may take place through a combination of salon-based training, Academy sessions, practical demonstrations, theory work, observations and ongoing reviews. This ensures learners can apply their skills in real working environments while receiving regular support from experienced educators.
